Short distances in a pleasant atmosphere
The Internal Medicine IMED on the grounds of the Saarland University Hospital UKS in Homburg combines all five specialties of internal medicine as well as research and teaching under one roof. With the new building, the decentralized distribution of the internal medicine clinics over 14 locations, which had lasted for many years, came to an end and henceforth enabled visitors, patients and employees short distances between diagnostics, therapy and patient rooms. The 3- to 5-story building with a gross floor area of 44,300 square meters was planned by woerner traxler richter planungsgesellschaft mbh from Frankfurt.
The façade design in green tones blends harmoniously into the wooded campus area. Finer shades of this green can be found inside the building, especially in the spacious foyer and in the cafeteria located on a platform above the main entrance. Panoramic windows provide views of the vibrant campus grounds. The interiors are decorated in light, warm and natural colors. This has a pleasantly calming effect on visitors, patients and staff. This is supported by an intelligent lighting design, which takes away the usual hospital character of the building.
Those unfamiliar with the area are guided safely across all floors by a guidance system from meng. Its unobtrusive presence blends in with the architecture. The timelessly modern signposts from the quintessenz signage system provide information and guidance in the form of mobile steles in the foyer, wall signposts at elevators and in corridors, ceiling signposts and door signs, as well as large overviews. Together, they form a coherent concept.
